Delaware E-ZPass Celebrates Year Anniversary

Dover -- Three rings and you're in.

One year ago that was the promise made to all Delawareans when the Delaware Department of Transportation broke away from another state E-ZPass system and created Delaware E-ZPass.

At an anniversary celebration Nov. 1 at the E-ZPass Customer Service Center on Old Rudnick Lane in Dover, DelDOT Secretary Nathan Hayward III said the promise made of answering customer calls within three rings has been a resounding success. In addition, the call center is available Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm, and Saturday from 8am to 2pm.

The response to Delaware E-Z Pass has been overwhelming. Since opening:

  • 86,000 new accounts have been established;
  • 167,000 transponders issued, and;
  • 127,000 telephone calls answered.
Secretary Hayward said the success of Delaware E-ZPass can be attributed to its 64 employees, all of whom are committed to excellence. "In Delaware we can make things happen that can't be done anywhere else," Hayward said to the approximately two dozen employees who attended the celebration. "This is another one of DelDOT's successes and you all are the reason we can call it a significant achievement."

Toll Operations Manager PJ Wilkins said, "We've made remarkable progress since we've been up and running, but it's not about the numbers of new customers or how many phone calls we receive. It's about the quality of service we provide. That is something to be proud of."

With the celebration going on, Dover residents Roger and Elizabeth Harris of Dover also came to the E-ZPass center to pick up three transponders, two for private vehicles and one for Roger's tractor-trailer, which he drives throughout the country. "It's going to save me time and money," said Roger Harris, holding his eight-month-old baby Richard Charles.

The 24/7 Concept (Real People solving Real Concerns) offers greater accessibility, responsiveness and efficiency in serving the thousands of Delaware E-ZPass patrons. In addition to walk-in service (available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.), Internet access and telephone response systems are also options for customers to use when they have account inquiries.

The CSC, which is operated by contractor TransCore, handles all services for Delaware E-ZPass customers. TransCore provides toll industry services to many of the largest toll authorities in the country. The E-ZPass Customer Service Center is at 26 Old Rudnick Lane in Dover. The toll free number is 1-888-EZPassDE (397-2773. The Web site is www.ezpassde.com.
